
The school year is almost upon us, and this is a great opportunity to reveal the numbers behind the city’s education system. The current year will be opened in institutions across the city with 43,890 students, over 2,000 more students than last year, with a 23 students average per grade and about 4,500 special education students (1.7%). Of the schools that provide matriculation, there is a 76% eligibility for a Teudat Bagrut.
There are currently 669 educational institutions in the city, of which 150 are schools and 519 kindergartens. According to the Municipality data, there is are an additional 1900 students each year on average and the upcoming school year will begin with 300 new olim students in the education system in the city.
Mayor Dr. Aliza Bloch: “The opening of the school year is a holiday. We have several such holidays as we have a number of school starting dates. We all work hard despite the uncertainty in order to guarantee the successful start of the coming school year. We have held many meetings on the subject including with the Prime Minister in order to ensure educational stability for the education staff and students despite the spread of the COVID-19 and we in the Municipality will continue to follow the developments and apply the lessons of the past year. I have no doubt that it will be a successful year.”
Education city counsel appointee Rabbi Yeshayahu Ernreich: “I would like to strengthen the teaching staff, the parents and the students as they make the necessary preparations for the start of the school year. Hard work is constantly being done to ensure the integrity of the buildings for all the children of the city and we will continue to work to ensure that all children in the city have a place where they can learn. G-d willing “this year will be successful and we will all be able to continue as normal a study routine as possible.”
